Looking Back

Discipleship requires following Jesus on His terms. A person who looks back is not fit to be His disciple (Luke 9:62). I must love Jesus more than myself and any other persons in my life (Luke 14:26). Looking back is a struggle for me that I need to work on NOT looking back. Remember a story about Sodom and Gomorrah? The angels warned Lot and his family not to look back when they run from the cities or they will die (see Genesis 19). Lot's wife died when she looked back. Looking back means you are still holding on to sin or sins that you will miss. When I was a prodigal Christian, I was involved in destructive sinful act ivies and God was trying to wake me up by giving me rough circumstances and the finally, my wake up call when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I came back to Christ, I have decided long ago that I SHOULD focus my life on Christ. My prodigal life's situations were destructive and I must fight the temptations of looking back. I need to focus on Christ without looking back. In Phillippians 3:13-14 says "....I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Jesus Christ, is calling us to heaven." (NLT).
