Whether or not God uses sickness as punishment is beyond our human understanding.
Some examples in the Scriptures:
Samuel 12:13-15 Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die. After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife had borne to David, and he became ill."
John 9:1-3 "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."
Acts 5 (Ananias and Sapphira) Verses 9-10 Peter said to Sapphira, "How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also." At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.
Throughout the Bible, the following have caused by God as Amos 3:6 says "When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?:"
Sodom and Gomorrah
The Flood
The Ten Plagues:
1 Blood (Exodus 7:14-25)
2 Frogs (Exodus 8:1-15)
3 Lice (Exodus 8:16-19)
4 Flies (Exodus 8:20)
5 Cattle (Exodus 9:1-7)
6 Boils and open sores (Exodus 9:8-12)
7 Hail (Exodus 9:18-34)
8 Locusts (Exodus 10:1-20)
9 Darkness (Exodus 10:21-23)
10 Death of the firstborn (Exodus 11:4-7;12:17,29,30)
When people use reasonings, we are dealing with "Reasoning versus Biblical" now.
As I have said before and I will say again. We cannot fully comprehend God and His decisions... this is why we are to have FAITH in God in ALL circumstances.
God is absolutely powerful, that God is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, that God is immutable, never changes, that God is all wise, perfectly just, holy, righteous. God is ruling all things to work together for our good and His purpose. Romans 8:28-29 "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Proverbs 20:24 How can we understand the road we travel? It is the LORD who directs our steps. When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future. Eccl 7:14. In Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
