God Gives and Takes away

The Bible talks about that God give and take away. He allow the good and the bad to happen. Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. If God is ALL good, then Solomon would not write the negative side of God in Ecclesiastes. From God's point of view. I arrived naked from the womb of my mother; I will leave in the same condition--with nothing. There's a right time and way for everything. He knows my current state and my tomorrows, if I have one. "This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24). Are we corrupting our thoughts with our wishful images of God? Contentment says, "Thy will be done, Lord," even when His will means a cross. Contentment is never being possessed by our wishful thinking images of God. The Bible clearly teaches that God knows beforehand what we will need and He will provide beforehand according to His will. Wisdom sees everything in focus and be able to trust God no matter what happens. God leads us to our destiny according to His will and glory. No matter what we do, God is always guiding us through our circumstances (good and bad). Nothing is impossible for Him. God is Good and at the same time, God is Holy and Sovereign.

Salvation is free, ... but discipleship will cost you your life

"Salvation is free, ... but discipleship will cost you your life." (Dietrich Bonhoeffer) Salvation is free through Grace (undeserve kindness) of God and His unconditional love. Is God's grace cheap? Becoming a disciple, following Jesus Christ requires personal cost, giving up your selfish "me" and become like Christ. What does it mean to become like Jesus Christ? That is the REAL question. Jesus will not dwell in spiteful and proud and selfish thoughts. Jesus treasures my pure and loving thoughts, my humble and lovely thoughts. We are to think like Jesus. 1 John 4:7-21 (New International Version) Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. Matthew 22:36-38 (New International Version) "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'This is the first and greatest commandment.'" Jesus said: Luke 14:27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. A disciple is someone who does certain things and things are typically discipline and obedience. A disciple who is a follower of Christ by trying to live as Christ lived and by carrying out Jesus' commands. A disciple is ALSO someone who understands certain biblical things which a disciple emphasizes accurate thinking and common sense concerning God, people, salvation, and other doctrines. A disciple must understand that God is both holy and loving; that I am a sinner, are made in the image of God; that Christ's death was the substitute payment for my sin; and that because of Jesus' payment, I am granted access to the heart of God. Reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, "The Cost of Discipleship" which first published in English in 1949. He wrote: 'costly grace' as opposed to 'cheap grace,' which he described as 'Grace without price; grace without cost,' or "grace without discipleship.' To Bonhoeffer, costly grace is inseparable from discipleship. Bonhoeffer’s concept of "costly grace" has appealed to many who think it is the answer to the apathy and worldliness of contemporary (1930's) Christians. Following Christ is costly in many ways. The greatest cost of all is to the old nature, ego, self. Nowhere in the Gospels do I find anything optimistic for earthly promises. Jesus told His hearers the whole truth and let them make up their minds. After Jesus spoke to "followers" (disciples) about the conditions, they turned back and no longer followed him. (John 6:66). Jesus might have grieved over His Cost of Discipleship requirements, but He never ran after them to try to win them with rosy promises. Christians all around us are trying every shortcut they can think of, to get "something for nothing" in the kingdom of God. Although God's grace has been given freely to humans who do not deserve it, the grace of God and point out that Jesus commanded us to take up our cross and follow Him. Our minds are so much set on things earthly and so little on things above. To grow in Christ as God desires demands on our submission to Him.

Temporal and Eternal Blessings

God take care of us in "eternal" sense more than "temporary" sense: Hebrews 11:39-40 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Physical blessings today as temporal at our temporal timing or Physical healing as eternal at God's eternal timing. People want it NOW while God already have established time for each of us at His Will, not our temporal time nor our faith (or works of faith). The Jewish people firmly believed that God was with them. Jesus reminded the disciples of that SAME fact to us. Great Faiths of the Old Testament believed in God even though they had never seen His form nor seen their promises before they died. They trusted in His care without ever seeing a protecting hand. They had full faith in an invisible God!. In 2 Corinthians 4:18 says So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. People are keeping focus on "sow and reap" of our sinful nature more than the Soveriegn of God who sometime allow situations go bad just to Glorify Him. All circumstances are work for heavenly good and called to His purpose. Even though we can not see the purpose for the trials we are going through, we can trust absolutely that the Lord is in control of all things. Every trial in our life is a furrow being plowed by the Lord, that we grow in faith, and learn to trust ever more confidently in the Lord. It takes a great faith for someone to endure the pain, hardship, illness, or whatever is happening in someone's life. The Christian walk is a fight of Faith, we have to understand that living (walking) by faith, we accept purpose and plans of God however He sees fit. How does our Christian grow in Faith? We grow through circumstances. Look at it this way, we would not have grown spiritually in the acceptance and understanding of God's grace and ways if God had removed the trial. Apostle Paul wrote: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor 4:18). “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col 3:2). We need to live our lives from an eternal (biblical) perspective. In Ephesians 1:11, "He works all things according to the purpose of His own will." 'Providence" means God’s faithful, moment-by-moment control over everything He has made to ensure that everything He has created are going according to His will. He is active in every detail of it. He’s active at every moment. He doesn’t stand back and let things happen because He decides to intervene if something or someone is not going according to His will. He governs the world moment-by-moment through providence, so that everything that happens, every detail of our life occurs by God's divine providence or by God’s express permission. He is in control of everything. Even the bad things that happen to us are circumscribed by a loving providence and God promises to use them all for our ultimate good. There is a verse in the Bible that God promises that there won’t be anything so bad happen to us that we’re not able to bear it. God does everything--He governs everything.” God doesn’t just sit back and wait until He wants to act and then do it through a miracle.” God constantly intervenes in our lives through HIS Providence. Knowing God's Will and Accepting God's Will. There is confusion between the determined Will of God and our responsibility as a Christian. We are living in a sinful world that the Bible teaches us to get involved. Do not forget to do good (Hebrews 13:16) to help the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed (Luke 14:13-14). God will be glorified who use their spiritual gift for "help others" and "works of service"(1Corinth. 12:28, Eph. 4:12). Are we helping them with empty words or are we helping them establish their relationship with God and encourage them to live in content in their situation? People are forgetting that faith is not the only issue that God is looking for. God is looking for holiness. The heart is where God meets us because that is where we make our decisions. The measure of faith by some is defined how successful you are spiritually. I truly don't believe that God determine (measure) our faith based on our own works (success). We need to guard our spiritual motives carefully and walk in Spirit. We need to examine my FAITH daily to make sure that our motives are spiritual and not from our sinful nature. All circumstances are work for heavenly good and called to His purpose. Even though we can not see the purpose for the trials we are going through, we can trust absolutely that the Lord is in control of all things. Accepting faith does not mean you will always recieve temporal blessings. Faith means is accepting the fact we have eternal blessings and TRUST God regardless what we go through in our temporal life. One Christian once said "God uses interuptions in our lives that causes us griefs for whatever reasons that we do not know. For examples, God saw something ahead and prevented us from going there at a specific time that would endangered us or leading us to a mission or leading us to closer to God". Something like that. God's timing is better than our timing. I have learned over the years, the definition of "Bad" can be interpret in many different ways based on someone's upbringing, experiences and faith. Bad things happens is the Will of God, which purifies our faith, to the glory of God (1 Peter, verses 6-9). (Also read 2 Cor. 1:3-7 and James 1:3). In Third John 1:2 says "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." There is confusion between the determined Will of God and our responsibility as a Christian. As a human being, we love the familiar of our life, to have a comfortable life and something that we can control my life. Also, as Christians, we have received the eternal promises of God. We just need to know and understand the Will of God from God's view. The better you get to know the Word of God, the less confusing is the Will of God. Those who struggle the least with the Will of God are those who know the Word of God the best because the object is to claim today is mine and tomorrow is none of my business but God's. If I peer anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now. In Isaiah 55:8-9 God says, ""My thoughts are completely different from yours, and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." In 1 John 5:14-15 says "And we can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. And if we know he is listening when we make our requests, we can be sure that he will give us what we ask for". In Proverbs 16:9 "We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps." If we view things as temporal rather than eternal (meaning temporally), we are going to be upset and disappointed. However, if we are a Christian and completely trusts God, then we will view our circumstances of our life as little more than necessary inconveniences to the accomplishment of God's greater purposes. There are Christians who did not, do not, or will not receive the blessings or spiritual gifts have nothing to do with their faith. This has to do with God's Will alone. God's Will does not come with guarantees while we are living in our temporary bodies. We all will receive our promises one day as Hebrews Chapter 11:39-40 reminded us that if we don't get them while we are on earth, we will get them in Heaven simply because God is eternal and His promises are eternal.

Financial Discernment of Ministries

Those Christian organizations who don't allow Christian Auditors to review their books is a sign of deceit. I won't donate to any Organization that is not audited by an independent auditor or auditors. One thing I know of, many non-Christians non-profit organizations have open their books to the public. Why can't Christians? Are Christians hiding like the Pharisees did with their money? Many of TBN programs and of cours THE TBN do not have accountability. If you go to ECFA's website and do a "search" on each of TBN programs' financial information and of course TBN's finanical records, you will find that many of them are not members of ECFA. If they are not opening their books, their are hiding their wealth. How many organizations, preachers and etc are willing to allow other to check on their ethics and have their financial records audited by Christians Auditors? For example of accountibility, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is one of the Charter members of the Evangelical Council For Financial Accountability (Since 12/1/1979).

Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA)

ECFA is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship. Founded in 1979, it is comprised of over 1,100 charitable, religious, missionary, social, and educational tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. ECFA’s Standards of Responsible Stewardship focus on board governance, financial transparency, integrity in fund-raising, and proper use of charity resources. Compliance with the Standards is monitored in three ways. First, all ECFA members must annually submit membership review information including audited financial statements, IRS Form 990 (if applicable), salary information, fund-raising appeals, board composition, changes in organizing documents, and much more to verify compliance with the Standards. Second, ECFA conducts on-site field reviews at over 10% of its membership each year. These field reviews serve to verify the information submitted in the annual membership review, confirm compliance with the ECFA membership Standards, and give support to the member organizations. To date, approximately 750 organizations have received an on-site review. Third, ECFA responds to complaints against member organizations. All such complaints are investigated thoroughly in order to determine possible noncompliance with the Standards. ECFA provides several services to the donor public as well. Disclosure requirements enable donors to request and receive audited financial statements for all ECFA members. ECFA’s website contains a membership directory with selected financial information of all its members, guidelines for giving, the Donor’s Bill of Rights, and general information helpful to the giving public. In addition, ECFA staff provides information to donors on a variety of issues. Through its publications and services, ECFA informs its members of current administrative, financial, fund-raising, legislative, postal, and promotional matters of common concern.

Billy Graham

Billy Graham is very well respected and I always respected him. He was radical but at the same time, he always have God in his heart. There are times he is human that he made mistakes but he is upfront. He was the first Christian, eastern or western, to preach in public behind the Iron Curtain after World War II. For virtually every year since the 1950s, he has been a fixture on lists of the ten most admired people in America or the world. He has received both the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1983) and the Congressional Gold Medal (1996). In 1953, Graham ended racially segregated seating at his crusades in the South, even before the Supreme Court’s school integration ruling and Graham irked some Southern fundamentalists by inviting Martin Luther King Jr. to give an opening prayer at the crusade. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is one of the Charter members of the Evangelical Council For Financial Accountability (Since 12/1/1979) ECFA is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship. Founded in 1979, it is comprised of over 1,100 charitable, religious, missionary, social, and educational tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. What Is ECFA? Which means Billy's organization opened his financial books for the auditors to review and reported that Billy's organization have a very godly and realiable stewardship.
