Prophet: True or False....
A mistaken prophet is a false prophet. A true prophet KNOWS for SURE that God's truth is true. While a mistaken prophet wants the title and proclaim to know the truth when it is false. 1 John 4:1 (NIV) [ Test the Spirits ] Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. God will judge those who are false (mistaken or not). James 3:1 "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." Jesus said in Matthew 7:22-23 "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'The Holy Spirit is MY true prophet because when Jesus said that the Comforter is coming, He was saying: "The Comforter will not come to stand on His own, to speak on His own authority. He will guide you into all truth-He will speak and act on the authority of the divine Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is spirit and faith is required to know Christ and then, the Holy Spirit will reveal who God really is.
The definition of prophet is this as A. W. Tozer explains it"Be assured that the prophet-preacher will not be welcomed by all those in the church pews. He is blunt and straightforward, seeking not to please people but God."In another article he wrote:"The Church today desparately needs prophets who can see where we are and give direction as to where to go; who understand current trends and discern their outcome."A prophet is a person who knows the times and what God is trying to say to the people of today's times. Prophecy is the evaluation of the present situation by knowing the past and looking into the future as the Bible describes. It is God who gives accurate evaluation, not a title of a person (i.e. Prophet). The Holy Spirit is our Prophet and we do not need "titles" but we do need to use our spiritual gifts without worrying about our own "title". A.W. Tozer said beautifully as this:Today we need prophetic preachers; not preachers of prophecy merely, but preachers with a gift of prophecy. The word of wisdom is missing. We need the gift of discernment again in our pulpits. It is not ability to predict that we need, but the anointed eye, the power of spiritual penetration and interpretation, the ability to appraise the religious scene as viewed from God’s position, and to tell us what is actually going on.We should not do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1)The New Testament relies on the Old Testament for people who "examine" the scriptures. The Old Testament made hundreds of references to Christ... (Messiah) including prophecies about the Messiah is about to come. When I read the New Testament, I refer back to the Old Testament for more details. It is AMAZING that MANY men wrote the Bible supported one another. The Old Testament should be read as well as studied just like we Christian study the New Testament.I won't hear from anyone who claims to be a prophet or have a title of a prophet. But when I hear the words of the prophet, I will know it.
